{Surviving the First Week of School & All About Me...}

No, I have not fallen off the face of the planet...I've just been busy [as I know many of you are] with the first week of school and getting into the swing of things...Whew! It's been a whirlwind adventure....My class is a good group of kids and I'm sure this year will be a blast!

The first [and second] week of school have come and gone and they were filled with rules, procedures, fun and of course some tears... but things are going well and the kids are getting into the routine of being in school... In fact, I wanted to share with you some of the activities we did last week for All About Me... I gathered these ideas from various blogs and websites... I know some came from Pre-K Pages or PreKinders, but I can't remember the others! So if you recognize something please let me know so I can give credit--Thanks!  Here we go!
We read Here Are My Hands then we painted handprints and wrote the sentences "These are _____ hand's, they can ______."

We also made a few graphs and charts to look at data about our favorite colors and the number of letters in our name... During our Reading/Writing time I had the kids place the Post-it with their name above their favorite color...I handed the kids a piece of paper with their names and they had to count and glue their under the correct number... We also read Chrysanthemum and learned she had 13 letters in her name...

The kids got a chance to dot paint their first initial and then completed the sentence "___ is for _____"

This was one of the most fun things we did this week... The kids decorated their names with torn construction paper in the colors of the rainbow... I don't remember where I first saw it, but it was so FUN!

The finished product... I love how they are so different... and it's a great indicator of fine motor skills...

I love this one too... Silhouettes of the kids.... I used to do it with an overhead projector but it died, so I now use a lamp and an easel...

This is our pocket chart activity.... for shared reading...

And finally, one of our shared writing activities... This was done the same day we did the dot painting...

So there's a look at all the fun the Fantastic Frogs had last week!  We will be continuing with All About Me next week followed by Apples.... I've also got Back to School night this week so we will see how that goes... Wish me luck!

Have a fabulous week!  Here's something just for fun... Click here for yours!
